Write a Job Posting People Actually Want to Apply To

Most job postings sound the same, and candidates can tell.

This is the job posting template we used when we decided to stop writing “standard HR-style postings” and start writing something more honest, more specific, and more human.

This job posting template is is designed to:

  • make the role feel real (not fluffy)
  • filter in the right people and filter out the wrong fit
  • set clearer expectations (including the trade-offs, if you choose to include them)
  • be transparent about basics like compensation and whether AI is used in screening

It also includes a note that it was built with Ontario’s 2026 hiring transparency requirements in mind.

A couple quick tips (the stuff that makes this work)

  • Write it like a person. If it sounds like corporate filler, candidates will treat it like corporate filler.
  • Let the prompt do the filtering. One good question beats 10 vague “requirements.”
  • If you ask for effort, give effort back. Even a short, thoughtful response changes the experience.

Small print (worth saying)

This template is meant to be practical support, not legal advice. Always align your posting with your jurisdiction and internal policies.
